Join us on Thursday, September 12th from 9 am – 10:30 am Pacific Time for our next online meetup! We’ll have a handful of short talks on a variety of interesting topics, including…

React Hooks — The Weird Ones

React hooks offer a better way to add state and side effects to your components. The built-in hooks can be composed and combined to create rich, shareable interactions and behaviours. You may already know how and when to use useState() and useEffect(), but what about useImperativeHandle()? How about useLayoutEffect() or useDebugValue()? Adam L Barrett will dive into the lesser known React hooks and discuss what they do and when to use them.

Intro to Monadic Composition in Functional Programming

Have you wondered how functional programming languages deal with side effects and asynchronous computations? In his talk, Ilya Fadeev will show you how to apply functional programming principles to write better code. He’ll discuss what “monadic composition” is and how you can use it to write your modules in a more functional way.

UX Discovery: Finding the “Wow!” Moment

User Experience folks know the value of what they do, but getting the client on board is a “seeing is believing” exercise. In his talk, Ryan Wilson will show how including the stakeholder in the Discovery Phase builds trust and proves the value of the UX practitioners on the project.

Register today!

After the talks, we’ll have a group chat to discuss the presentations, talk with the presenters, and put the meet in meetup.

This meetup is free to attend, but you have to register to save your spot!
